InterVarsity began in 1877 at the University of Cambridge in England, where Christian students met to pray, study the Bible, and be witnesses on their campus. Later they joined with groups at other universities to form the British Inter-Varsity -- the name signified fellowship "between the universities". In 1928 the movement spread to Canada, and ten years later, from Canada to the United States.
Today, InterVarsity chapters minister to over 500 campuses nationwide - striving to reach the whole campus, from freshman to faculty, Native American to International student. We believe faithful students influence people, ideas, and structures of the university and ultimately the world.
Our vision is to see students and faculty transformed, campuses renewed and world changers developed.
The purpose of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is to establish and advance at colleges and universities witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture and God's purposes in the world.
